Offshore Cylinder Repair

Apex meet tight deadline

It was ‘all hands on deck’ to avoid a potentially disastrous situation of a complete shutdown on this major oil rig.

Failing hydraulic cylinders were to blame and without prior notice given, Apex immediately sprung into action.

Based on this material was ordered that day and machining of the piston rods was carried out that night, before the cylinders had even arrived.

Cylinder Before Repair

And with only two days before drilling was due to commence, there was no room for error.  Reputations were on the line, including those of Apex Hydraulics and more critically, our customer, a market leading provider of well systems.

The repair was completed within the two day window, with Apex working 24 hours a day to deliver a complete solution and fulfill the requirement. Our customer was delighted, and because the challenging deadline was achieved and no down-time resulted, their customer was delighted too.  As a result, no downtime was incurred.

Apex stripped down and manufactured new rods, as part of a complete rebuild. Quality testing and a third party witness testing followed. Finally a full repaint and the cylinders were shipped back to the rig.

Cylinder After Repair

The job was completed to the customer’s exact specification and their work unit were back on the rig in ample time for drilling to recommence.

This is a great example of how everyone at Apex works to the philosophy of ‘never say no’.
